The Return of MK Spice
If you were following my cartoons last summer, you might recall that Claire set up a restaurant in our house called "MK Spice." There is no special significance to this name. "It's the first thing I thought of!" she said.
MK Spice started as a way to alleviate summer boredom. Claire spent time establishing a menu and setting prices. She even formatted the menu using a template in Microsoft Word, then printed it out.
Here's the front:
And here's one of the pages inside:
Note that last line: "If you want to add or take away any sidings, it will cost extra." Indeed, I didn't want yogurt and I got billed an extra dollar for that request.
Anyway, this business started because Claire was looking for something to do, but it quickly became clear that MK Spice could be a lucrative endeavor. Why? Because we had a teenager in the house who wanted food, but was too lazy to get off the couch.
It was a match made in heaven.
Here's the cartoon I did last year about it:
I had to shut down the whole "paying for Kate" situation, which really cut into MK Spice's profits. Claire eventually had to close up shop.
The restaurant business is tough, people.
But I've just been informed that MK Spice is coming back -- this time with a revamped menu and lower prices. I already told Kate she needs to use her own money, which she seems willing to do. As for me, I'm going to see if Claire will accept Monopoly money as currency. I doubt it, but I need to at least try. If I'm going to be making changes to my orders, those $1.00 charges add up quickly.
I guess it's a small price to pay, though, to eat at "one of the best restaurants in the country."
I Was on a Podcast!
As you may have seen from my post this week, I was a guest on The Clown Car podcast, a show run by a very funny husband and wife team who have four kids. It was so enjoyable to talk to them about summer, cartoons, social media, pet-craziness and more.
Here's the link if you want to listen. You can also find it on iTunes under "The Clown Car." Barry and Krystle (the hosts) keep it real, and talk about what it's like to be married and raise kids. It's fun!
Father's Day Cards
In the market for a Father's Day card? I have three out on shelves! They can be found at Target, Walmart and other retailers that carry Recycled Paper Greetings cards. They're not at EVERY store, but they might be at a store near you. Here's a look:
Cartoons
Reminder that during the summer (when the kids are home) I'll be posting every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, instead of every weekday. Why? Because this is the scene anytime I sit down to work:
So, yeah. Having the kids around (especially Claire on her karaoke mic) is not great for productivity.
Let's see... in the past two weeks we've covered end-of-school-year emotions, suspicious laughing, pronouncing the word "açai" and more. If you missed any, head over to my website to check them out!
The most popular cartoon in the past two weeks was a repost from last year -- this one about exercise.
The most popular NEW cartoon was this one, about blowing up inflatable toys. Clearly, it's better to use some sort of pump. But if you DO blow something up by mouth, you can be sure it will pop within minutes. It's a law of the universe.
Hedger Corp Update
Things are coming unglued over at Hedger Corp. First the staff spent a panicked week trying to deal with their "Cone of Solitude" problems. Then they had to start company-mandated counseling. It's not going well.
Here are the stories:
