Behind the Scenes of a Recent Cartoon
Sometimes I find shortcuts to finish a cartoon in less time. Here's a video showing you the process I followed for Friday's cartoon. (Click the image below.)
Things You Might Enjoy
The New York Times mini crossword puzzle. I'm loving this thing. You download the app, and there's a free mini puzzle you can solve every day.
The big crossword (that appears in the paper) is also in the app, but I enjoy the mini puzzle.
One reason I like it is that it's the perfect thing to do when you want to take a little break. I used to pick up my phone and check social media, but we all know how that goes...
So instead, now I do a crossword puzzle. If you have any short, fun games you like to play on your phone, let me know! It feels a lot better to use my brain rather than mindlessly scroll, scroll, scroll.
Snapchat Filters: OK, I know I JUST said I want to avoid falling down social media rabbit holes, but I have to say: The Snapchat photo filters are fun. If you're on Snapchat, you know this already. But if you're not on Snapchat, you might consider joining. Not to post anything or follow anyone, just to amuse yourself with the crazy photo filters.
And bonus: If you're stuck somewhere with a kid who is getting antsy, you can have them play around with the photo filters. They will be very entertained.
Here's a quick look at what to do. And yes, that's me with one of the filters on my face. Beautiful, no?
Magnificent trees: I love trees, so I was thrilled to happen upon this article about 16 of the most magnificent trees in the world. Check out that giant sequoia. Crazy!
Great playlist: If you're on Spotify, this "Backyard Family Pool Party" playlist is a good one! My friend played it during a family party and it was a crowd pleaser (with no explicit songs).
OK, that's it from here. If you've got any recommendations to share with me, reply and let me know!
Top Cartoons
I post cartoons regularly on Instagram, Facebook, and on my website. So follow along!
These three cartoons were the most popular since the last newsletter.
This first one is a cartoon I originally posted in 2017. It's still as true today as it ever was, and it's taken directly from a conversation I had with my husband.
This next cartoon is a new one, and was taken directly from a conversation I had with my bed. Perhaps you can relate?
Another popular cartoon over the past few weeks was this one, about kids being bored in the summer.
I was SO happy when a reader wrote to me and told me that her son read my cartoon, and then was inspired to reenact it. Check it out!
Ahhhh... I love it!
Have You Downloaded Your Gift?
As you may have seen, I sent out a free gift to all subscribers! It's a printable page of Emergency Notes for All Occasions. Grab your copy here if you haven't already. (For an explanation of how to use these notes, see this post.)
And here's another idea for how to use these notes: My mom cut one out and taped it onto the front of a birthday card envelope. Nice work, Mom!
I hope you have fun with the notes. Let me know if you give one to someone, and if you can think of any other ways to use them!
