Updates From Here
My daughter Kate got her wisdom teeth out this week, and she was still feeling the effects of the anesthesia as we drove home. She was out of it (in a funny way), and very chatty -- even with all the gauze in her mouth. I kept telling her, “Be quiet for a minute and bite down on the gauze.” But no.
“I’m going to write down ALL my thoughts when we get home!” she exclaimed.
But her plans changed.
I guess we’ll never know what all those thoughts were.
In other news, the kids have become relentless bakers. Relentless. Our family diet now consists of sugar and carbs, with a side of butter. We’ve eaten…
At one point Claire decided we should reintroduce some amount of nutrition into our diets, so she created healthy cookies.
Realizing that we might need at least one serving of fruit this month, I bought a watermelon. But when we cut into it, it was yellow!
I guess that’s a thing?? Anyway, it scared us, and we’ve retreated to the safety of baked goods.
Muffins, anyone?
Four Things You Might Like
1. A New Game. I’m intrigued by this game called Poetry for Neanderthals. Basically, you have to describe something to your team using only one-syllable words. You’ll see a video at the game’s website. It looks fun! (I’ll play it, then report back.)
2. Painting Records. My kids and their friends buy records from thrift stores (maybe some are open now?) and then paint designs on them. You can find inspiration on Pinterest. Create art for yourself or as a gift! (The records below were painted by Kate's friends.)
If you don't have records, paint rocks, pieces of wood, glass jars... whatever you can find! Somehow it's really fun to pain something that's not paper. (Although painting paper is fun too!)
3. Article About My Cartoons. If you want to laugh about the ridiculousness of family life, check out this feature from Bright Side that has 15 of my cartoons.
4. Printout For You! Here's a cartoon (below) that you can look at during difficult times. Or send to someone. Click on the image to download a full-sized version. Then you can save it to your device or print it. It's a reminder to not let your thoughts overwhelm you. Stay in the moment.
Most Popular Cartoons
You'll always find my cartoons on Instagram, Facebook, and on my website. So follow along!
The following cartoons were the most popular this month.
The first is about the types of questions that kids ask us. The comments on Instagram and Facebook were funny, too. Kids are equal parts ridiculous and hilarious.
The next one is a shorter version of an old cartoon. Print this out and keep it in your pocket in case you ever find yourself in the middle of a dance circle, with people clapping and chanting your name.
This one is from the archives, but proved to be quite popular when I reposted it this month. It turns out A LOT of us have A LOT of tabs open!
I've accidentally wiped out all the tabs on my phone. TWICE. And each time I was horrified, but also weirdly relieved. (I don't recommend it, though.)
