I wanted to show you two gifts I’ve especially been enjoying.
First, this arcade game!
Only my version is a bit scaled down.
I love it. It's perfect for my Hedger Corp employees. They’ve really been in need of a new arcade game because Grandma Bernice completely dominates the office PAC-MAN.
As you can see, it's shaping up to be quite a productive year at Hedger Corp.
Then I also got a pillow that is our dog’s face!
As many of you know, my love for our family dog is immense, bordering on dysfunctional.
I already have socks with JJ’s face, and now I have a pillow. This got me thinking… with a few more purchases, I could put together an entire dog-themed scene for myself.
I told JJ about this plan and he seemed skeptical. But he'll come around.
News & Fun Stuff
A round-up of some things that have been happening here!
1. Podcast: On the “My Effing Desk” podcast, I talked to host Leslie Gaar about creativity, cartooning, working, and life in general.
2. Podcast: On the “Speaking of Parenting” podcast I talked to Sherry Yuan Hunter about parenting styles, my own parenting, and how cartooning influences my interactions with my kids.
3. Hedger Corp: I posted two updates about the Hedger Corp employees. The story starts here, then you'll see a link to part two.
4. Instagram Live: I did an Instagram Live with my friend and fellow cartoonist Betje. We talked about cartooning, how we met, and more.
5. Top cartoons of 2020: I gathered all my Most Popular Cartoons in 2020 on Facebook and Instagram in this post on my website, in case you missed the countdown.
As part of the Instagram Live with Betje, we drew each other’s family in our own style. It was so fun to see her drawing of my family, including the dog! Here it is (it was near my birthday).
I really do love seeing my dog wrapped in blankets -- she nailed that one!
And finally, my online friend Chira inspired this drawing of a person looking to the sky and asking, “WHY?” (available in my store).
Then he surprised me by buying a bunch of shirts for his family, and they sent me these awesome pictures. Thank you, Chira and family! I love it!
Printable Congrats Note
Sometimes it’s fun to just give someone a “congratulations” note that they’re not expecting. Try it this year! It can be something big ("Congratulations on graduating!") or something small ("Congratulations on making the bed!").
Click here (or on the image below) to open the file, then save it to your device. You can print a couple copies and delight people. If you want a version that you can color in yourself, download this one.
And congrats to anyone who is planning to use this congrats note!
Most Popular Cartoons
You can find my cartoons on Instagram, Facebook, and on my website. So follow along!
Here are the two most popular cartoons from the past month. First, this one about wrapping paper. It seemed that many people could relate to these issues!
And then this cartoon, based on a tweet by Simon Holland:
Over on Instagram, I continued to post daily "Bowl Game" cartoons. This is when I pick random words from different bowls, then draw a cartoon based on those words. Here's a quick look at all the different Bowl Game characters I've created so far. There are a lot of them!
Going forward, I’ll be posting Bowl Game stories on Mondays and Fridays on Instagram. And over the next few Wednesdays I’ll be finishing the story about Chauncey the Space Chicken, a character who emerged from the Bowl Game.
I know not everyone is on Instagram, so I need to move some of this content over to my website where it's easy to access it. It takes a while to reformat the files for the web, so I just need a little time to get that done!
Thank you, as always, for reading! And if there's a topic you'd like me to cover this year in the newsletter, reply and let me know!
