Microwave Challenge
In , we took a look at my “microwave.” I’m using quotes there because I don’t think this device likes to be called a microwave. It would probably call itself a "Precision Cooking Device." It has lots of ideas about how to heat your food, and it would prefer if you just stayed out of it.
It claims it can fry an egg. It claims it can pan-brown coconut. Can it? Well, let's just say I tried it out, and I learned some important things along the way. Watch here or click below.
One funny think about having a totally complex microwave like this is that no one in my family remembers how to operate a normal microwave. We just look at them and say, "What do I push??" And people reply, "You just press Time - Cook." And we're like, "WHAT?!"
The only way we know how to reheat food is by going through five complicated menu choices, and trying not to accidentally pan-brown something along the way!
3 Fun Things
1. The Valley Heat Podcast
Oh my gosh, this podcast. It's one of the best things I’ve heard in a long, long time. I have cried with laughter several times while listening to it.
It's a fictional story that’s meant to sound real, and the plot unfolds over 11 episodes (so far). Here’s the official description:
Freelance insurance adjuster Doug Duguay uses his self-honed investigative skills to chronicle suspicious activities around his home and neighborhood in the Rancho Equestrian District of Burbank, California.
As you may know, I love offbeat humor – especially when it’s delivered in a dry, deadpan way. And when it comes to that type of humor, this show DELIVERS. If you like that kind of thing, definitely check this out. Also, the promotional ads in the show are hilarious and just keep getting better.
You can find Valley Heat in in most podcast apps (Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Podchaser, etc.) or on this website (make sure you scroll down and start with episode 1). If you end up listening, feel free to reply and let me know what you think!
2. Solving a Rubik's Cube
Did you know: You can learn to solve a Rubik’s Cube!
If you or your family members enjoy puzzles are looking for something to do this summer, consider learning how to solve a Rubik’s Cube. My mom and my daughter have learned how, and it’s a very fun thing to know. People are amazed when you can do it. My daughter Kate can actually solve it in under one minute now.
You have to be ready to memorize some things, and take time to understand how the Rubik's Cube works. But once you get it, you'll be able to solve the cube no matter how mixed up it is.
There are a lot of different tutorials out there, both video and website. Here are two:

If you decide to try it, good luck and have fun!
3. "Live at the Ryman" Album by Old Crow Medicine Show
This has been on repeat at my house, and I was thinking that some of you might like it as well. If you haven’t heard of them, Old Crow Medicine Show is an American band that plays a mix of old-time, folk, bluegrass and rock. This live album is, in my opinion, great. I especially like "Louisiana Woman, Mississippi Man" (with Dolly Parton!) and "Wagon Wheel."
Stuff I've Posted Lately
I’ve been posting several things lately, so here’s a roundup in case you missed anything and want to see it.
Last week I reposted this cartoon story about the time Claire learned how to flip a coin… and the disastrous results that followed.
And here’s a cartoon warning you against a common cybersecurity scam:
I posted a few cartoons about unusual jobs:
Undercover Puppet-Show Consultant and Insanely Intense Dog Stylist
Bitter Jumbotron Operator
Ultra-Competitive Chicken Trainer
I posted three new Bowl Game cartoons:
(This is where I pull words out of bowls and draw what it says.)
Stressed-Out Spider Typing
Intense Fish Transporting Someone Somewhere
Triumphant TV Remote Picking Up Wet Towels
And I posted some Hedger Corp updates. The office had to deal with a T-Rex issue. As most offices do. Then we got some new flooring that was pretty much a disaster, so the employees went shopping at Michael's to pick out something different. The story starts here, or just go to my website and you'll see all the different chapters posted there, starting on June 11.
Most Popular Cartoons
You can find my cartoons on Instagram, Facebook, and on my website. So follow along!
One of the most popular cartoons was this one, about exercise instructors...
People also liked this one, about trying to decide if you're a tidy person...
And then there was this cartoon, about the extreme appreciation I feel people should have four our family dog.
And finally, this cartoon. Happy summer (for those in the northern hemisphere)! But I'm pretty sure parents in any hemisphere can relate to this one:
