Today’s idea: Using music.
You can use music to change your mood. It’s really effective, as you probably know! But I have another suggestion as well…
Use music to match your mood.
Lately, I’ve been playing a game where I ask: “What song would go with this situation?” Then I get that song in my head. I might even hum it.
When you think of a song to match your mood or experience, it sort of makes you feel like you’re in a TV show or movie. This can make things feel less dire.
And if you’re stressed, thinking of a song will temporarily get your mind off the stressful thoughts.
You can use any song — an oldie, a contemporary song, a TV show theme song… whatever! I find that, no matter what, classical music seems to match whatever is happening. Sometimes I’ll just turn on a classical music radio station in the car. It’s fun, and it has the added benefit of making you feel like you’re in a Bugs Bunny cartoon.
To illustrate songs that could match moods, I put together this short video. Watch it when you can listen with the sound on.
I put the songs in that video (and a few more songs, too) into a Spotify list. So if you’re on Spotify, check it out here. It’s called “Mood Songs - Hedger Humor.”
Do you ever think about songs that match your mood? Do you have any “mood songs” to suggest? Leave a comment and share your thoughts!
Have a great week ahead,
~ Adrienne
All the Monday Motivations
PROGRAMMING NOTE: I have more Monday Motivations to share, but I’m going to be sharing them in my Hedger Humor newsletter. I’ve temporarily stopped doing the newsletter because I’ve been working on the Monday Motivations, but I miss that newsletter and want to get back to it! So you won’t see a Monday Motivation next Monday, but don’t worry! You WILL get the content in my newsletter, which I’m working on now.
P.S. Here are the songs I used in the video:
“Under Pressure” by Queen
“The Four Seasons - Summer - Presto” by Vivaldi
“Moonglow - Take 1” by the Benny Goodman Quartet
“Chariots of Fire - Original” by Synthesizer Syndicate
“Stayin Alive” by the Bee Gees
My wife is a piano teacher and I work at home. Sometimes, I have Zoom meetings during lessons. One time, someone I work with was giving a report about a project and the struggles/challenges she had with it. I was muted, but I could hear the piano upstairs. As my colleague reported, the piano above was playing this menacing rhythmic song. It punctuated with periodic dramatic chords which always seemed to come as my colleague was finishing her sentence. I was practically crying from laughing. I had to explain to her what was going on so she didn't think I was laughing at her challenges. LOL.
I get The Lazy Song by Bruno Mars stuck in my head when I'm being a sloth at home 😆
