Something fun to start your week
We have a weird thing going on in our family room.
It’s a fake tree from Pier One (remember that store??) and over time, I’ve been adding wrestling action figures to it.
You read that right: wrestling action figures. I buy them from Target and pose them in various places on the tree. Sometimes my family members or visitors will move them into new poses.
These action figures probably never predicted they’d end up on a tree. I mean, if you’re a professional wrestler, you want to be doing this:
Not hanging out on a tree limb like a common bird!
But here’s the thing: If these wrestlers are disappointed with their lot in life, you’d never know it. They are bringing their “A” game to the tree-posing mission. Look at this dedication!
They’re truly giving it their all.
I started to think about these wrestlers as I was performing tasks I didn’t want to do. For example, I was recently washing dishes and getting irritated. But then I thought, “How would the wrestlers handle this?”
You KNOW they would be all in, giving it their full dedication and attention.
So, I shifted my mindset and imagined I was part of the wrestling crew. I paid serious and close attention to washing each dish. I noticed the bubbles, the water, the light, the smell of the soap. I focused on what I was DOING, rather than getting lost in my thoughts.
And that made the whole thing more enjoyable.
So the next time you do something mundane, pretend you’re part of the wrestling crew. Get intense. Focus very closely on what is happening. How does it look, sound, feel, etc.?
You could also amuse yourself by thinking about how the wrestlers would handle whatever task you’re doing. Imagine how intense they would look. The dramatic poses they would strike. They would take it way too seriously. “Calm down!” you’d have to tell them.
Oh, and one last thing: Consider getting yourself a wrestling action figure! They are fun to pose around your desk, car, house, or wherever.
