I follow the satirical news site The Onion on Twitter, and I’m always amused by their (fake) headlines. For example:
So here’s an idea for this week: Envision a headline for what’s happening to you, especially during life’s less fun times.
Just picture a snapshot of yourself in that moment, with a headline hovering over the image.
I’ve tried it, and I would say this: It doesn’t necessarily cheer you up, but it does weirdly justify your feelings. It feels satisfying to picture your state of mind in a headline format. And it’s kind of fun to have this inside joke with yourself.
This little exercise can also help break up a negative thought pattern because suddenly you need to switch gears and think of an image and headline. And who knows—maybe it will make you laugh sometimes.
If you use this tip, feel free to share one of your headlines by clicking on “comment” below.
Have a great week ahead!
