Great tips. The "I need time to think this through" works with sane people. If it's a bully, those can be fighting words. You may need to step away and take a time out.

I've also found that saying 'I never thought of it that way' is so much nicer than calling someone a blockhead.

during the final days before retirement, I frequently found myself in meetings listening to people bickering with each other rather than finding common ground. my train of thought typically started with 'what is the topic? what is each person saying?' and typically ended with 'why am I here? I wonder what time the pizza place opens for evening take out?' -- you do self care your way. I like pepperoni.

Love this! We are going on vacation and I'm worried about what I'll forget to pack! Getting curious helped me work out what will happen if I forget certain things! It put my mind at ease. Thanks for this!

I'm pretty sure I do the "I wonder how this person is going to act" scenario when going into a meeting with a difficult person. This person seems to forget that he's only a VP. Of sales. Not the president of the company. <eye roll inserted here>
