Toilet Paper Rolls: Your Input
I think we can all agree that certain things are just wrong when it comes to toilet paper rolls. For example, leaving it like this:
Other toilet-paper-roll questions fall into more of a gray zone. For example, is it OK to leave a roll on if it looks like this?
I say no. Throw that roll away and put the new roll on. But you could argue that there’s still a little bit of paper on it. (Just make sure a new roll is within arm’s reach.)
Then we come to an issue where I believe there is an obviously correct answer.
The “over” method is the right way. I thought this was an accepted truth! But here’s the thing: My husband doesn’t even notice the difference.
So I’m wondering: Do you think there’s a correct way to put the toilet paper roll on the spindle?? Maybe this isn’t as cut and dried as I thought it was.
As I thought about this, I realized I’m not even sure why I think the “over” way is correct. Why do I have an opinion at all? I don’t know!
Alas, toilet paper does not come with installation instructions. So we’re left to figure it out on our own.

Mundane Halloween
In Japan, there’s a Halloween festival where people dress up in costumes that are purposely mundane and ordinary—and it’s so funny. I learned about this in a post by Nick Kapur on Twitter, and then I read more on Bored Panda here and here.
Here’s a look at some of what goes on:
Good stuff, right? Check out the links above for more!
Pumpkin Hanging Around My House
In other Halloween-related news, my daughter and her friend painted a pumpkin last weekend.
During the course of the week, I felt like I got to know this little guy. Here are some things I learned.
Incidentally, painting a pumpkin seems like a really good idea. Not only can you get really creative, but you also completely bypass this stage of pumpkin decorating:
Fun Accounts on Instagram
Finally, here are some accounts I’m enjoying on Instagram. I don’t think I’ve mentioned them yet (and apologies if I have). They are:
The Leighton Show is parenting and marriage humor. His “texts from college freshman” series is hilarious.
Maddy Mitchell presents lists such as “Things that are embarrassing for no reason,” and her deadpan delivery is so funny. Make sure you click on the “reels” (i.e. videos) section of her Instagram page.
Jefferson Fisher has great advice for how we can argue less and talk more. He always shares three tips in his videos, and I find them really useful.
Top Cartoons
OK, let’s get into the top cartoons! (Remember: You can keep up with all my cartoons on Instagram, Facebook, or my website.)
The most popular cartoon on Facebook this month was this one, about picture fails.
This is based on my personal experience, although I may have taken some liberty with the last “selfie” image there. Maybe it’s not THAT bad, but I’ll tell you what: It FEELS that bad.
Over on Instagram, this was the most popular cartoon:
WHY MUST YOU DO THIS, SLEEP PODCAST?? Actually, I know why. It’s so I’ll pay the monthly fee to subscribe and get rid of the ads. Which is exactly what I did.
Well played, sleep podcast.
Well played.
OK, so next month I’ll be sending out my “Gift Guide” issue of the newsletter. I originally thought I would send that out this month, but I’m still finding things to add to the list, so I need another couple of weeks!
Oh—and if you’re looking for some holiday cards, I have some in my online store.
That’s it for now. Take care everyone, and let’s meet back here tomorrow morning for a new Monday Motivation.
As always, feel free to share any thoughts or feedback!
Your fortune: You will create a toilet paper package that includes explicit instructions for how to put the toilet paper roll onto the spindle. It will become the best-selling toilet paper in the world. “Finally, a toilet paper that provides answers!” people will exclaim. “This is all we ever wanted!”
The patent for the toilet paper holder has it illustrated as “over”. So the guy who invented it wanted us to use the over method 🤷🏻♀️
Exception: If you have a cat or a toddler, you have to put it under or they can/will unroll it in a millisecond.
